Putintseva Plays a Perfect 10 in Paris

Yulia Putintseva is not one of those players.

Ever “emotionally demonstrative,” Putintseva’s 1R against Aleksandra Krunic was highly anticipated:

In the shadow of the show courts, the spotlight nonetheless found the young Kazakh on Court 10:

Even the insects were eager for front row seats:

From 2-0 up, Putintseva saw the first slip away thanks to some deft touch from the Serb…

…making matters worse, Krunic brought a vocal cheering squad:

But the Kazakh took the crowd head on…

…and, leveling on a Krunic double fault, Putintseva unleashed:

Falling behind a break in the third, she remained undaunted…
